About us
A small studio with
a long attention span.
Luxedwel was founded in Portland in 2011. We are designers, stylists and occasional carpenters who believe a home should be built around a life — not a trend cycle.
We started with a single renovation on Alberta Street and a borrowed drafting table. Fifteen years later the studio is still deliberately small: five designers, a handful of homes each year, and a refusal to take on more than we can draw ourselves.
How we work
Every project begins with a two-hour walkthrough. We ask about mornings, guests, work, music, cooking and the chair you always choose. Only then do we draw. Layout comes before furniture, furniture before finish, finish before styling.
We work alongside your architect and builder as a single team. That means fewer surprises on site, honest budgets, and details that survive contact with real life.
What we believe
- Materials should age, not date. Stone, oak, linen, brass and lime plaster get better with use.
- Light is a material. We plan lamps, dimmers and window treatments as carefully as any wall.
- Rooms need breathing space. A little emptiness is what makes the rest feel considered.
- Good design is a service. Clear drawings, clear fees, no theatre.
The team
Led by founder and principal designer Mara Lindqvist, the studio includes an interior architect, a materials specialist and a styling team. Everyone you meet in the first conversation stays on your project to the end.
